the Implementation of School-Based Assessment

Problem Statement
According to an
article by NurAdillah in New Straits Time Online (2011), school-based assessment's
success relies on readiness of teachers, parents and students. The President of
Parent Action Group for Education (PAGE), Datin Noor Azimah Abdul Rahim
mentioned in her interview with New Straits Time Online, “For school-based
assessment to be successful, teachers must exhibit the utmost level of
integrity so that parents will have confident in the system”. Hwa Tee Yong
(2008) mentioned in his article that teachers will be given greater
responsibility in developing assessment and linking it to effective learning”

Reading
The Ministry of
Education has decided to implement school-based assessment as the new education
system replacing the previous system which is th exam-oriented education
system. The system will be implemented this year (2012) and some schools in
Malaysia has started using this system.
