LITERATURE REVIEW

Teachers’ Concern on the Implementation of School-Based Assessment

School-based assessment is the combination of the previous central examination and school-based assessing method. With this implementation, teachers play important role in assessing the students (Faizah, 2011). However, according to Shanusi (n.d) in his article, the system will empower the school and the teachers to carry out more assessment at the school level which can be the challenges for both the teachers and the schools. Teachers are given the responsibilities to assess their students based on their performance throughout the whole year in school. However, there have been some assumptions whether or not the teacher are willing to adapt their teaching in appropriate directions (Yung, 1995). Alaba (2012) somehow manage to list out some benefits of implementing the system in school, which covers on the improved students participation in class, as well both teachers and students’ motivation and self-confidence. It is important to make sure that both the school and the teachers are fully prepared for the implementation because it is the teachers who can make the implementation successful and it is the teachers also that can lead to the downfall of the system (Yong H. T, 2008).
